Richmond Institute of Sports Leadership

Richmond Institute of Sports Leadership

The opportunity to be part of the
Richmond footy club is a really exciting and – there’s like-minded people doing the
same similar course. So I’m Paul Rocca I’m at the Richmond Institute of Sports
and Leadership at Swinburne. I was in my second year of my business degree I was
stuck in a bit of a rut as to where I wanted to end up once I graduated saw
this course popped up and went to the open day and thought it was a bit too good to be
true so signed up and yeah enjoying it. So we do a whole
different range of classes so we do nutrition we do fitness and it covers
the sporting side and the business side of things any day when you have someone
like today we’ve got Lydia Lassila any time we’ve got someone of her wealth and knowledge coming to share her wisdom with us it’s pretty special and there’s no
other program I reckon in the world that has something like this. My name is Lydia Lassila I am a five-time Winter Olympian and I’m
a freestyle aerial skiier. Started off with a presentation style session
just sharing my story and some of the key take outs that I’ve learned as an
athlete through sport that have really helped me through through business and
through life, following that we did a couple of practical sessions then
finally we ended on a bit of a visualization session, so I think yeah
really really fun day really jam-packed day but but really good and I think a
good variety for those students to take away certain aspects and hopefully put
it to use later on. Not just learning but actually doing so to be able to on the
weekends go out and work for Richmond something really special and something I
love doing. So before the game today I’ll be working the Club Hug so that’s
where we give our Richmond members caps and scarves before the game and then just before the players run out I’ll be helping all the kids get ready and lined
up before the boys come out and run through the banner. So today is it’s something a
little bit different and it is a role that a lot of students have had the
chance to participate in thought the year. So you get an insight into several
different areas and it allows you to see what areas you’re more interested and
what you want to possibly do post course and and I think the best part
about it is that you are exposed to several different areas whether it’s
within the club or outside and you get the opportunity to work and network with
so many people within the industry. So I loved footy since I was so young and I’ve never really played sports so
no you don’t need a sports background to study this course. So after this course ideally I would like to work for Richmond or an AFL club, I’ve found my passion within like the business and the management side of
things.Working within RISL or just being a part of it, you form so many
amazing friendships it’s only been a couple of months and I’ve already made
so many amazing friends and connections for life. you
