Narco Violence Rampant As Brazil Olympic Games Approach

Narco Violence Rampant As Brazil Olympic Games Approach

THE OLYMPICS ARE
SET TO TAKE PLACE IN REAL AND THERE ARE REPORTS INDICATING
THAT THE VIOLENCE IN RIO NOT ONLY CONTINUES AMONG THOSE ñ IT
TURNS OUT THE VIOLENCE HAS ESCALATED QUITE A BIT BECAUSE OF
DRUG GANGS FEUDING WITH LOCAL POLICE. A NUMBER OF VIOLENT ACTS
HAVE TAKEN PLACE OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS. I WANT TO GIVE YOU AN
EXAMPLE. APPARENTLY THERE WAS A DRUG KINGPIN WHO WAS BEING
TARGETED BY POLICE OFFICIALS. DURING A GUNFIGHT HE WAS
HOSPITALIZED. WHILE HE WAS HOSPITALIZED, AND UNDER
PROTECTIVE CUSTODY, IT TURNS OUT SOME OF HIS GANG FRIENDS TRIED
TO GET HIM OUT OF THE HOSPITAL. THEY SHOWED UP WITH THEIR
WEAPONS AND STARTED SHOOTING THE HOSPITAL UP. CNN HAS MORE INFORMATION. TAKE A
LOOK? >>A CLASH BETWEEN POLICE AND
GANGS AND ONE OF RIO DE JANEIRO’S IMPOVERISHED PLACES.
WITH CIVILIANS CAUGHT IN THE MIDDLE. URBAN WARFARE IN DENSELY
POPULATED COMMUNITIES, WHERE PARENTS STRUGGLE TO KEEP THEIR
CHILDREN SAFE. THIS WOMAN SAYS TWO BULLETS FLEW INTO A
CHILDREN’S REC CENTER. WHEN ARMORED PERSONNEL CARRIERS AND
POLICE SPECIAL FORCES MOVE-IN, THEY TRIGGER
MORE GUNFIRE. IT’S NOT EXACTLY WHAT YOU’D
EXPECT IN THE HOST CITY OF THE UPCOMING SUMMER OLYMPICS. >>THAT WAS ONE MAJOR STORY OUT
OF BRAZIL, BUT THERE IS ANOTHER ONE THAT SHOULD MAKE ALL OF
THOSE GOING TO THE OLYMPICS CONCERNED. RECENTLY THERE WAS A
PHOTO UPLOADED ON SOCIAL MEDIA FEATURING A GANG MEMBER HOLDING
AN AR 15. HE WAS POINTING IT TOWARDS VEHICLES. IS A ROAD THAT
HELPS TOURISTS GO FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE OLYMPIC VILLAGE
IN RIO. THAT IS A CAUSE FOR CONCERN BECAUSE THERE IS A
TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF VIOLENCE ON THE RED LINE, BUT ALSO THE
YELLOW LINE, ANOTHER ROAD. IT’S INSANE BECAUSE APPARENTLY GANGS
WILL GO UP TO PEOPLE’S CARS AND SHOOT THEM UP. I HAVE HEARD
STORIES OF PEOPLE GETTING SHOT AND KILLED JUST WITHIN THE LAST
FEW WEEKS. OFFICIALS IN RIO ARE TRYING TO THINK THEY DON’T HAVE
A PROBLEM. THEY TOOK $500,000 OUT OF THEIR SECURITY FUND
BECAUSE OF THE ECONOMY. THE ECONOMY IS NOT SO
GOOD IN BRAZIL. IF THEY DON’T HAVE ENOUGH
RESOURCES TO KEEP PEOPLE SAFE, AND YOU SEE THIS UPTICK IN
VIOLENCE, IT IS A CAUSE FOR CONCERN? >>THIS IS PARTLY RELATED TO
OIL. BRAZIL HAS A TON OF OIL, ONE OF THE COUNTRIES IN THE
WORLD THAT HAS THE MOST OIL. WHEN OIL PRICES PLUMMETED,
BRAZIL’S ECONOMY WAS DEPENDENT ON OIL, AND IT CREATED HUGE
BUDGETARY PROBLEMS. THIS MIGHT NOT OF BEEN SO BAD IF THERE
WASN’T SYSTEMIC CORRUPTION WHERE THE PEOPLE IN POWER REDIRECTED
THAT OIL MONEY TO THEMSELVES INSTEAD OF THE PEOPLE WHO COULD
HAVE USED IT IN THOSE NEIGHBORHOODS WE JUST SHOWED
YOU. MAYBE THERE MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN AS MUCH CRIME IF THERE WAS
MORE ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY, EDUCATION. INSTEAD OF
JUDICIOUSLY USING THE RESOURCES OF THE COUNTRY FOR THE PEOPLE,
INSTEAD IT HAPPENS ALL ACROSS THE WORLD THE RICH AND THE
POWERFUL TOOK A LOT OF THAT MONEY AND PUT IT IN THEIR
POCKET, AND THEY DIDN’T SHARE. NOW BRAZIL IS A DISASTER. THE
OLYMPICS IS ALREADY AN EPIC DEBACLE. EVERY COUNTRY THAT HAS
THE OLYMPICS HAS SOME ISSUES. BECAUSE THERE IS SO MUCH MEDIA
AROUND THOSE ISSUES, THOSE ISSUES WILL GET SPOTLIGHTED. NOT
EVERYBODY IS GETTING SHOT IN BRAZIL OR GETTING THE ZIKA
VIRUS. >>ABSOLUTELY. WHAT HAPPENS IS
THERE IS THIS HUGE DIVIDE AMONG POLICE AND THE DRUG DEALERS, AND
THE DRUG TRAFFICKERS THAT LIVE THERE. OFTENTIMES POLICE DON’T
EVEN POLICE THOSE AREAS BECAUSE OF HOW DANGEROUS IT IS. THEY
WILL CONTINUE PROTECTING THE WEALTHIER AREAS OF BRAZIL. RIGHT
NOW YOU ARE SEEING THE VIOLENCE INCREASE, THEY ARE CUTTING THE
BUDGET FOR SECURITY, AND THEY ARE TRYING TO BRUSH THIS ISSUE
UNDER THE RUG. I AGREE, WHENEVER YOU HAVE THE LIPIDS IN ANY
COUNTRY YOU WILL SEE SOME STORIES SENSATIONALIZED. BUT WE
HAVE SPECIFIC EVIDENCE SHOWING THE UPTICK IN VIOLENCE. THERE
NEEDS TO BE SOMETHING DONE. I DON’T THINK THEY WILL RETHINK
THE DECISION TO DO IT IN RIO, BUT IT DOES PUT PEOPLE AT
RISK? >>UNFORTUNATELY THIS ALL COMES
BACK TO MONEY. IF THEY HAD TAKEN MOST OF THE MONEY AND CORRUPTION
AND ACTUALLY CARED ENOUGH TO POLICE THOSE AREAS AND ACTUALLY
MAKE THEM PROSPER, IF THEY CARED ABOUT THIS PEOPLE INSIDE WHAT
ARE NOW SLUMS AND THEN MAYBE WE WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE IN
THE FIRST PLACE. NOW THEY HAVE INVESTED TOO MUCH MONEY IN THE
OLYMPICS TO MOVE IT. THERE IS NO WAY BRAZIL IS GOING TO SAY IT IS
TOO DANGEROUS HERE, GO DO IT SOMEWHERE ELSE. INCONCEIVABLE.
IT DOESN’T MATTER IF THE WHOLE COUNTRY IS ON FIRE. THE MOST
IMPORTANT THING IS THEY DON’T WANT THEIR MONEY ON FIRE. THEY
ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO ALL THOSE TOURISTS COMING IN AND PUTTING
MONEY BACK INTO THE ECONOMY. NOW IT LOOKS LIKE NOT AS MANY
TOURISTS MIGHT COME IN. SO THEY MIGHT BE LOSING A TON OF MONEY
ON THIS OLYMPICS AT A TIME WHEN THEIR ECONOMY CANNOT AFFORD
IT? >>YOU COULD NOT PAY ME TO GO TO
THE OLYMPICS IN BRAZIL. I DON’T CARE IF PEOPLE THINK THESE
ACCUSATIONS ARE OVERBLOWN. ANYONE, REGARDLESS OF HOW
INNOCENT YOU ARE, COULD BE A VICTIM IN THIS. LAST MONTH THERE
WAS A 17-YEAR-OLD GIRL THAT DIED BY BEING HIT ñ THAT JUST
HAPPENED. >>THAT AR 15 PICTURE LOOKS A
LITTLE WEIRD TO ME. IF YOU LIKE IT IS ALMOST A MARKETING
CAMPAIGN AGAINST BRAZIL AT THIS POINT. IT RAISES A COUPLE OF RED
FLAGS FOR ME. THERE ARE VENTURE CAPITALISTS IN THE WORLD WHO
SOMETIMES BENT ON CURRENCY, ECONOMIES, AND IF THEY SHORTED
BRAZIL THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN PICTURES LIKE THAT WOULD SHOW
UP. BY THE WAY, THE PICTURE OF AN AR 15 POINT AT THINGS,
WELCOME TO AMERICA. >>BUT WHY WOULD WE WANT TO TAKE
F-15S AWAY FROM THE PEOPLE OF BRAZIL? HAVE THEY HAD THEIR DUE
PROCESS YET? >> ACCORDING TO AMERICAN LOGIC I’M
SURE IT IS KEEPING THEM SAFER. >>WE JUST NEED TO MAKE SURE
THAT EVERYONE ON THE ROAD HAS AN AR 15 SO THEY CAN PROTECT
THEMSELVES. ANYWAY ñ. >>TO BE FAIR, IT HAS WORKED ON
ME. I HAVE NO IDEA IF IT IS PROPAGANDA. I’M SURE IT’S REAL.
THAT IS ALSO TRUE. THERE IS THE ZIKA VIRUS, THOSE THINGS ARE
TRUE. THE DEGREE OF SEVERITY IS UNCLEAR. BUT HASN’T WORKED ON
ME? YES. THAT IS THE STATE THAT BRAZIL IS IN RIGHT NOW AND THAT
IS NOT A GOOD PLACE TO BE.

  1. I would still travel to Rio De Janeiro but there are rules and if you break em' you die. Dont drink from all water sources, don't go to the Favelas at night and if they say give me everything listen

  2. The America Brazil AR-15 gun comparison was a dumb one. Brazil has insanely strict anti gun laws. not only do they have in an organized police force they have criminals and drug dealers roaming around free those same criminals and drug dealers are running and ruling things there unchecked as well. you can't compare average harmless citizens who own recreationally shoot AR-15s to vicious predators. Not to mention even with their laws that gang member still had an AR-15. according to FBI statistics rifles only make up 1% of all gun related crimes in the US. in America hands and feet account for more murders than all firearms combined every year. Right there is your media exaggerated hysteria. guns are just an excuse not to deal with the actual problem people. if liberals really cared about people they would actually enforce the gun charges when people are charged with crimes. Do some investigative journalism research on that. And that's not even about light sentences, plea bargains, parole and probation, that's about actual DA's and prosecutors not even bringing the charges to the table in the first place let alone pursuing them before they even get in front of a soft judge. in a string of charges the gun of senses are always the first to get thrown out. for liberals it's too mean to deal with the people that are causing the problems and it's much easier to go after the inanimate object because it doesn't have any feelings. you don't care about all the other innocent people who do no wrong that it affects because you don't happen to have any interest in the subject (in this case that subject being firearms) but if it was an interest that you cared about and effected you it'd be a different story.

  3. Stop having Olympics in third world cesspools.  Carve out 10 countries and rotate them.  The Olympics have become too big for it's britches.  Time to scale it down like it used to be and keep it in countries that have the infrastructure in place to support it.

  4. The media,Brasil held the World Cup while there were protests and I didn't hear about anyone getting hurt.So the media is just hating on Brasil because ,here in America, there's a lot of violence too…Its just media hype..

  5. Sou Brasileiro tenho orgulho, pois é um País Maravilhoso mas tenho vergonha dos governantes.
Sinto muito e peço desculpas pois estão acabando com nossa imagem.
Na verdade o rio de janeiro já foi vendido.

  6. Cenk please dont talk bullshit.
Theres nothing to do with Oil Economy.
The government expended more than they have and now the country is broken.

  7. I'm brazilian and already knew this kind of shit would've happen if they chose brazil to the next olympics.

  8. I don't think you guys get the severity of living in 3rd world countries with severe violence problem. Does it seem sensationalized to put that footage/images this in the news? For Americans, maybe. In places like Salvador, Guatemala, Brasil, Mexico, Honduras, etc. we get news pieces like that every day, multiple times a day.

  9. Dumb decision giving Olympics to Brazil, too much corruption just the same as the Dubai World Cup. DUMB.

  10. lol, must have felt weird going almost 8 minutes without being able to further the anti-gun agenda but you managed to tie it all up at the end, too bad its not working out for ya…

  11. This leftists idiots are saying the same bullshit the left says here on Brazil
    "OOOH THE OIL ECONOMY PLUMMETED!"
Yeah, and where was the 800 million in bribes and other frisky shit that happened on state run oil company Petrobras?
Stupid Cenk doesn't even know we don't have as much oil as Venezuela for instance, where the country is absolutely gone now that the oil prices are shit. Oil was never our main export, in fact gas prices have been going up WAY BEFORE the economic crisis and political scandals or the american move to take down oil prices to ensure that Russia gets screwed up globally(which will fail btw)

  12. So you're going to Brazil right? It's been 2 week a girl was raped and nothing happens, Rio is such a mess and there's much violence, people kill everyday and the government doesn't care, so I hope you stay alive because you won't enjoy anything at least that your survival.

  13. "how did they get their hands on a ar16 when even their military doesn't posses that kind of equipment" think deep. it goes beyond drug trafficking

  14. my parents and brothers lived in Jacarepagua for quite some time, the drug gangs are bad, but the police there are just as bad and just as crooked. when ana mentioned the man was pointing the ar15 in the street, well there was 2 cop cars there. knowing the rocky relations between police and favelas, I belive he was aiming it at the cops not the citizens. citizens in brazil are coke money.

  15. Only in 2016, almost 50 policemen were killed in Rio de Janeiro.
Read this from a local newspaper
    http://oglobo.globo.com/rio/seguranca-em-xeque-quase-50-baixas-na-policia-do-rio-19571864
    and translate it to english.

  16. well…. I am Brazilian n believe if u r planning to go, just don't go, Brazil is a beautiful country but it is not ready for that. don't put your life in risk. it's painful saind that bout my country, but it is the truth.

  17. Rio yall needs to Stop this BS. I know yall mad at World Cup results and now Olympics OTW… Come on. The world needs our Athletes to Represent. Stop the Violence please.

  18. I live in rio and he gets it spot on, with the oil prices falling and with this weak and corrupt government , the states ran out of money and very recently violence has increased in rio when it should be decreasing. Probably during the olympics there will be backup from the army on rio's security the real problem is afterwards, we are screwd

  19. Love how at the end of the video you all ignore the fact that it was a gang member pointing a gun at people, but some how that means all the people in the us that owns an ar-15 causes the same threat.

  20. All this is BS from liberal american media, the homicide rate in Rio is 18.6 per 100k people , in Miami / FL the homicide rate is 19 per 100k people, you have more chances to die in Miami than in Rio, why don't they make a report to talk about how dangerous Miami is for tourists? wanna go further? How about you make a special show alerting people how dangerous it is for tourists to go to Mardi Gras in New Orleans? the homicide rate there is 39 per 100k people, over twice the rate of Rio de Janeiro.

TYT, before you say sh*t about Brazil make reports about your own stup*d country.

  21. Lol, That dumbass gangster needs to push that EOTech forward on the rail. Anyone else notice how far back the sight is on the rifle?

  22. thanks america….this unwinnable war on drugs made most of central- and south america real hellholes, but without this policy, there wouldnt be profits so high, that drugs are the 2nd biggest industry in the world, right after arms. when drugs were legal until the 20s and 30s, there weren't more addicts, even though you could buy heroin just like aspirin, while there is more meth, crack and heroin on the streets than ever before, which proves the absolute uselessness of prohibition, not to even mention the 50% of prisoners in there for drugs, costing billions to taxpayers.

  23. Yes, please Ana, don´t come to Brazil. There is nothing to see here and is to dangerous. Go to Orlando! Much nicer and safer place.

  24. what? how can there be violence in the leftist utopia that is Brazil? I mean the have VERY strict gun laws? plenty of diversity? high taxes make for a better society right? it doesn't just go into their pockets? its not like they don't pay cops and firefighters. oh wait.

  25. I live in Rio and im telling you, do NOT come to RJ!

Our economy is completely broken, a cop dies every single day, violance is everywhere! NO! Copacabana is NOT safe! Its quite the oposite, thieves know there are going to be a lot of tourists there and they are their targets!

Just search google for violent deaths in Rio in the past month! its shocking! Do NOT come to Rio de Janeiro!

  26. Yeah, about that AR-15 aiming down to the road, thats real, those 2 white and blue cars down the road are police cars, that photo is the kind of demonstration of power from the drug dealers we see all the time here.

  27. Oh yep, listen to these two racists here saying ALL Brazilians are criminals and killers who have the tzatziki virus; spreading fear and Brazilianophobia. #TYTarebigots

  28. There, it is common in Brazil, happens deaths, robberies almost every day, I'm from Brazil and I'm translating it into English, even though in my city does not happen so, you guys are afraid of zica, me never happened yet well, do not be afraid of catching the disease, only if you are unlucky kkkk

  29. Do not come to brazil here is much more worse than you could ever imagine if you love to live stay away for your own security.

  30. The problem in Brazil is the weak laws that encourage corruption and violence , so the country is living a crisis in public security and the economy , but you need to understand that Brazil is not just in Rio de Janeiro , there are other places wonderful in the country!

  31. Wondering about this "War on Drugs" in Brazil served the same political purpose it was designed to serve in the U.S.? Coup?

  34. there s a lot of countries inside brazil… rio is just one… There s a lot of different cultures here…go to são Paulo, rio grande do sul, fortaleza,Bahia, …search about this places and u will see… brazil is not only favelas ….thanks

  35. It really bad in the main city area of RdJ…I travel to there for business and my employer hires a private security detail with a driver. We're instructed to not leave our hotel.

  36. Now the Olympics is over all the comments were unfounded and blown out of proportion by the media, security was great and it went off like a rocket,if you think like that you'll never go anywhere besides there are places in the states that are dangerous,Detroit, lower part LA so don't be bagging Rio-every Country has a place where drug gangs etc hangout and homeless people, shanty's,Council housing etc….
